Archive for November, 2007Flash penetration is tricky thing to gage. Although it’s probably the most common browser plug-in in existence I am always wary about new versions and users who are unable to upgrade due to locked down admin rights. Adobe’s stats on the matter always seem a little optimistic, and their site admits that although the stats are taken from a wide demographic it is not necessarily representative of the region as a whole. Indeed, it seems only a couple of hundred people where surveyed for the UK.Taking a look at stats for our own sites reveals a variety of level of support for Flash 9 over approximately 135,000 users:
Not surprisingly the differing nature of the sites results in different percentages (a men’s deodorant website having the highest 94%, a health food site having the lowest 82%), but at this point in time the take up looks lower than Adobe suggests. Personally I’m going to remain cautious. Flash 9 has some great features but if 1 person in 10 can’t access the site it’s not worth it… yet.

Philips Second PubertyPosted by Adrian in Videos, Websites, tags: everywhere, hair, nasal, nose, philips, shave, trim, videoThe sequel to last year’s award winning site takes a different approach. Not as good a concept in my opinion, but the slick site is well done, and I like the pamphlet idea. Now you can associate locations with photos. Find other people who took photos in the same places as you. I love the easy to use interface. Just drag your photos onto the map to set their location, and just click through other peoples. Beautiful. Nice video by AXE/Lynx

Uniqlo GridPosted by Adrian in Websites, tags: grid, logo, multiuser, playground, uniqloI love the way this website is using a multiuser environment. While all it may be doing is displaying the Uniqlo logo, it is a good way of pushing the brand at people, so they will likely remember the logo when they are next out shopping.

Canon - Welcome to the playgroundPosted by Adrian in Websites, tags: 3d Animation, camera, canon, papervisionA visual feast of a site. The 3D effects created with a technical solution called Papervision3D (who have a pretty nice site of their own) I like this banner ad. Simple, but well executed. Coming hot on the heels of Google’s Open Social, Facebook has hit back with an ad platform for the social networking site. It allows brands to create their own pages as well as launching ads at a specific target audience. The idea is to allow users to grow brands rather than pushing it out to them. |
